Evolution of Opensource

India is going through a change, and not just e socio-political changes which are happening around the country but a change that can directly impact us, the followers and fans of Open Source. Mr. Narendra Modi has sworn in as the next Prime Minister of the country and with him in power, there is a good news for the Open Source fans. Here is an excerpt from the manifesto:
  • Deploy IT to protect India’s priceless cultural and artistic heritage, which includes digitization of all archives and museology.
  • Promote ‘open source’ and ‘open standard’ software.
  • Mandate digitization of all government work to reduce corruption and delays.
  • Set up High-speed digital highways to unite the nation.
  • Use technology to reduce Transmission and distribution losses.
  • Use mobile and e-Banking to ensure financial inclusion.
BJP aims to make every household digitally literate with a goal to make India the Global Knowledge hub, with IT being a major driver and engine of growth. Institutional Reform – Administrative, Judicial, Police and Electoral If the government moves ahead with all these initiatives, we are confident that it would be key for a growth in Open Source adoption by the government and also by businesses.
From Openbravo, we are completely aligned with this vision and we must reassure our community that we will do whatever it takes to take this initiative ahead.

Why do you need ERP?

An ERP solution can deliver dramatic benefits to businesses of all types and sizes – increased productivity, reduced operating expenses, improved information flow, and enhanced performance management.

Why does your company need an ERP solution? Here is why!
Countless different processes, activities, and systems are used to run your business. Numerous workflows and procedures – some manual, some automated – that may or may not be formally documented. And a variety of departmental applications and legacy databases that are likely disjointed and not well-integrated. While this approach may have survived in the past, in today’s dynamic and highly competitive marketplace, it can seriously hinder productivity, profitability, and growth. Cumbersome, error-prone, labor-intensive manual processes can drain both time and money. Businesses must operate as lean as possible in order to keep the bottom line in check, and failing to automate critical, yet routine business activities makes it nearly impossible to do that. ERP solutions allow companies to achieve true business process automation – streamlining many of the important day-to-day tasks across a business, and freeing up staff to focus their efforts on more complex initiatives that require more personalized attention. This approach can not only boost productivity and worker output, it can dramatically reduce operating and overhead expenses.

Business processes and activities have become increasingly complex – no matter how big or small your company is, or what industry you are in – without an ERP solution in place, creating a cross-departmental coordination and workflow execution can be quite challenging.

Another reason Opensource ERP solutions are so critical is their ability to increase information consistency and accuracy. Many companies still suffer from “multiple versions of the truth” – incorrect and inconsistent information across the business. For example, if the accounting department and the contact center access two different databases which aren’t integrated, a customer with a billing question will likely get an inaccurate answer if they call the contact center for assistance. These problems, although they may appear small on the surface, can add up, leading to bigger customer satisfaction and retention issues that can negatively impact revenues and market share. But most importantly, an ERP solution makes it easier for employees at all levels – from front line staff members and team supervisors to senior managers and executives – to assess company performance and understand their impact on it.

ERP solutions enable effective objective setting, and allow everyone to monitor progress towards that goal. This makes companies far more agile by helping them quickly identify problems in the business, and take immediate corrective action.

We provide ERP CRM solutions too and that means two major solutions under a single roof.

Mobile Applications and their impact on today’s Business Scenario

The world has seen a drastic change in the last 20 years. When the computers first came into existence and mobile phone was just another mode of communication but available to almost every individual and with the emergence of smart phones, the world has become so digitalized that you can do almost everything from operating a TV to purchasing a product to playing a game to many more possibilities.
Every business is shifting its reach towards a Mobile Application, as they know that they will have to focus on the end customer’s convenience and what matters is how user-friendly and how approachable does the business sound for a customer.
As per sources, 2014 has been marked as the first ever year where the mobile internet usage has crossed the number of desktop internet users that indicates the rise in the number of mobile users and how receptive are they in terms of mobile engagement.
What also should be kept in mind while thinking about a Mobile Application is by deciding your target reach and how many of them might or might not use a smartphone because even though there is a huge rise in the smartphone world, not people from all age groups or all social groups are actually comfortable and there are situations we have seen in the recent days by few e-commerce giants deciding to move their business entirely into a mobile application and hasn’t been well received by all their target audience.
What all matters is how intuitive your application is going to be and what will make the customer pick up your mobile application on the go for any of their needs and how easy your application to navigate through against a typical website browsing is. The conclusion is that one in every 5 people own a smartphone and the ratio might go down even more in the coming days and every business needs to have more and more brainstorming sessions to come up with bright ideas to effectively communicate with the end customers through a mobile application.

Information management backbone for companies

ERP systems form the information management backbone for companies of all sizes and in all industries. Opensource ERP software covers the gamut of operations from basic inventory control, customer orders and purchasing to an advanced planning and scheduling, distribution management, international financials and more covering all types of businesses.

The most powerful aspect of ERP systems is that they are fully integrated around a single database to enable co-operation and collaboration across the enterprise. This means that ERP solutions help to break down the walls between departments and empower users to share information and tie their everyday activities more closely to the company’s goals and enrich the customer service.

Few reasons to have a good information management system:
  • To control the creation of new records and keep an eye on the growth.
  • To improve effective document sharing, productivity and efficiency.
  • To mitigate risks and ensure all compliance standards are being taken care of.
  • To support better decision making for the management.

Let’s have a glance at the paradigm of the way the world has changed in terms of Information Technology. We have evolved very quickly and moved from the traditional information management by aligning technology to it. Now that everything has been digitalized and most of it is based on-cloud, it is even more important to have standard reliable software that can control and secure the data to the highest standards possible. This is possible by using a document and information system that provides an end-to-end solution with utmost security. We at Exceloid work closely with Alfresco Document Management System to do so.

Phone Gap-an web based mobile development framework

PhoneGap is an web-based mobile development framework, based on the open-source Cordova project. PhoneGap allows you to use standard web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for cross-platform development, avoiding each mobile platforms’ native development language. Applications execute within wrappers targeted to each platform, and rely on standards-compliant API bindings to access each device’s sensors, data, and network status.

Use PhoneGap if you are:

.A mobile developer and want to extend an application across more than one platform, without having to re-implement it with each platform’s language and tool set.
.A web developer and want to deploy a web app that’s packaged for distribution in various app store portals.
.A mobile developer interested in mixing native application components with a WebView (browser window) that can access device-level APIs, or if you want to develop a plugin interface between native and WebView components.
